Women’s Wellness Festival 2017
On International Women’s Day 2017 the Shoalhaven will see the return of the Shoalhaven Women’s Wellness Festival, a festival initiated by local women for local women. Now in its 6th year the festival will take place at Nowra Showground on Friday 17th March 2017. The emphasis of the 2017 festival will be on cancer prevention and screening, which can help protect people’s health through early detection and treatment. National screening programs are available in Australia to detect breast cancer, bowel cancer and cervical cancer. The aim of screening programs is to pick up very early cancers in healthy individuals, who do not have symptoms.
Performances, food, information stalls, market stalls, service information, resources, giveaways and more!
The Festival’s primary focus will be on the health and well being of women, with a specific focus on Aboriginal women, and providing information on how families and communities can support and empower women. This event is also designed to raise the profile of the Shoalhaven and to promote the fantastic services, education and training, and health professionals the area has to offer.
Women, their families and friends, are invited to come along and enjoy a variety of entertainment, performances, workshops, information sharing and lots of free stuff on the day to raise awareness and promote positive health messages. This festival will also provide a great opportunity for women to connect with local community organizations who appreciate what it means to be a woman in the 21st century.
The 2017 festival will also see the launch of the Shoalhaven Women’s Wellness Support Fund (SWWSF), which will allocate funds to Shoalhaven-based cancer support services who offer practical assistance to women living with cancer. Every year the committee raises funds to enable it to run the festival. From this year any monies raised above the running costs of the festival ($6000) will be made available to the support fund.
The festival is run and coordinated by a voluntary committee made up of women from a variety of community organisations as well as members of the Shoalhaven community. It depends greatly on the generous support from the community, other community organisations and local businesses. If you would like to support the 2017 Women’s Wellness Festival, and the Support Fund, there are several ways to get involved:
Become a Stall Holder – this is a great opportunity to promote your service, every year the festival connects with over 500 visitors and this year they will walk away with information and practical advice on early cancer screening and it’s benefits.
Donate – help the committee to continue their valuable work in putting on the Women’s Wellness Festival and also help to support local women and their families going through cancer. Every dollar raised above the running costs of the festival ($6000) will go into the Shoalhaven Women’s Wellness Support Fund. Donations can be made via our Give Now page at www.givenow.com.au/snswomenswellness . All donations, no matter how big or small, are greatly appreciated.
