Jervis Bay Maritime Museum – World Environment Day Fair

On Saturday 3rd June, to celebrate World Environment Day, the Jervis Bay Maritime Museum will host an Environment Fair – a free, fun and family friendly event promoting the local environment in which we live.

World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.  “Connecting People to Nature”, the theme for World Environment Day 2017, implores us to get outdoors and into nature, to appreciate its beauty and its importance, and to take forward the call to protect the Earth that we share.

The Fair will welcome eco experts, conservationists, green thumbs, community groups and businesses to share information on our local environment.

Fair goers will be treated to plenty of fun activities and entertainment throughout the day including sessions by local musicians and puppeteer Jeff Aschmann.

Get information on our local parks from National Parks and Wildlife, Booderee National Park and Jervis Bay Marine Parks, Fisheries NSW and Shoalhaven Bushcare.

Meet and learn about some of our local wildlife with ‘Dusty the snake man’, Shoalhaven Shorebirds and Wildlife Rescue South Coast. Hear about Kangaroo Valley’s Rock Wallabies which are facing imminent extinction and how you help protect them.

Shoalhaven City Council Environment people will be there with fun activities and information on how you can make a difference.

The Australian Plant Society will be here to talk about what native plants are most sustainable to this area.

The Environment Fair coincides with our monthly market and there will be a selection of market stall holders and food stalls.  Come down for a fun and informative day out.
