Beecroft Peninsula – CLOSED from Sun 6th August to Fri 11th August.

The peninsula is generally open to the public each week-end and closed week days.  From 9pm Sunday to Friday lunchtime the peninsular is closed, no access available to the public from sunset Sunday.  The exception being during school holidays when the area is open to the public daily.

Beecroft Peninsula is a sandstone plateau created some 280 million years ago. BWR contains several rare and endangered plants and animal species as well as unique natural, cultural and heritage sites including historic Point Perpendicular Lighthouse  and many sites of strong traditional cultural and spiritual significance to the local Jerrinja Aboriginal people.  Natural attractions include Honeymoon Bay, spectacular views from rugged cliffs, wide expanses of flowering heath, patches of remnant rainforest, secluded beaches and beautiful bays.

In recognition of its outstanding natural, cultural and historic values, Beecroft Peninsula is listed on the Commonwealth Heritage List and is protected by legislation under the Environment Protection & Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.  The Department of Defence’s Shoalhaven Environment Team actively manages the environmental and heritage values of BWR to achieve environmental sustainability in support of Defence capability.

Beecroft Peninsula is home to the Department of Defence’s Beecroft Weapons Range, which is used regularly for Defence weapons and other training. The area is closed to the public when exercises are in progress.  Generally open from 1.00pm each Friday to midnight Sunday each week-end and open all week during school holidays.
