Nowra NSW is the hub of the Shoalhaven. Visit a gallery or museum, or enjoy the natural

Nowra NSW is the commercial hub of the Shoalhaven, located on the banks of the glorious Shoalhaven River. There is plenty of accommodation in hotels, motels, self-contained apartments and holiday houses and lots to do and see in the local area.

WHAT TO DO IN Nowra

The Shoalhaven City Arts Centre houses an ever changing array of excellent works by local artists, while nearby is the gracious Meroogal, an Historic Houses Trust property with its contents a tribute to the four generations of Australian women who lived there. Enjoy a round or two at the Nowra Golf Club or Worrigee Links Golf Course. A short drive from the city centre is the Navy’s Fleet Air Arm Museum – the largest aviation museum in Australia. It is located adjacent to HMAS Albatross, Australia’s home of naval aviation. The Shoalhaven City Turf Club holds regular race days with great prizes and a great country horseracing atmosphere and the speedway is sure to get your blood pumping at one of their race meets.

The Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre attracts many great performers so there is no shortage of acts travelling through the town. Nowra has a strong sports orientation so there’s plenty to do whatever your interest including an olympic sized pool and water park. For the more leisurely inclined, local river cruises offer a more relaxed style of activity. There are some good local bushwalks within the Nowra district, notably Ben’s Walk which is an easy, shady and well-graded riverbank walk winding beside the Shoalhaven River, affording excellent views of the river and hinterland.
